Some ask"Are we fit for democracy?"
My answer is "By all means." But we do need to change the present system a bit.
Let the people's representatives be elected according to present norms but make sure that we get the best of ability at the helm of affairs. For this I propose the the following :
"THE PRIME MINISTER AND THE MINISTERS BE SELECTED AND NOT ELECTED"
The applicants for these posts ought to be one of the elected representatives of India yet they need not be the members of the largest elected political party !
For each post we should have predefined set of physical and mental abilities and qualifications. For example the candidate for the post Prime Minister must have a proven track record of patriotism besides educational qualifications.Special weight to testimonials / recommendations must be given. A sound knowledge of history, geography, global affairs and comparative religions prevailing in India apart from sense of justice and love for people may be adjudged by the selection process.
For the purpose of these most important appointments only those should be included in selection committee in whom we Indians repose full faith & confidence.
I recommend : The Chief Justice of India, The Chairpersons of RAW, Election Commission, Planning commission and Enforcement Directorate as members of this most prestigious selection committee.
